"Si Se Puede" - Studio Sessions

Progress shots of the project I’ve been working on for the last few months for F.L. Schlagle High School.

I met with student representatives, the principle and a few councilors to gather information pertaining to the school, where I was in search of the intricacies that made school unique to them. In total, there are four installation pieces that will be installed in the school. Each piece has it’s own theme that ties into the overarching narrative of “school spirit”.

This project has challenged me to, not only create multiple designs for a single location that are simultaneously different and operate within the same narrative context, but to also design and fabricate the work as removable art pieces that are custom shaped and sturdy. One of the fun elements in this series was including portrait references of students that I talked to while gathering information about the school.

The final work is scheduled for installation this September, so there’s a lot of anticipation for seeing the reaction of new students, returning students and school staff members.
